James Ivory just took home an Oscar for his stunning adaptation of AndrГ© Aciman's coming-of-age story of first love Call Me by Your Name. The film, starring TimothГ©e Chalamet and Armie Hammer, received critical acclaim this award season, but it seems that the story of Elio and Oliver is far from over. Director Luca Guadagnino revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that there will be a sequel to the pivotal film.

"The novel has 40 pages at the end that goes through the next 20 years of the lives of Elio and Oliver, so there is some sort of indication through the intention of author AndrГ© Aciman that the story can continue," Guadagnino told THR. HIV and AIDS will be a main focus of the sequel, according to Guadagnino. While the novel takes place in 1987 at the peak of the AIDS epidemic, the film was set in 1983, when the disease was first being discovered.

However, a powerful sequel is not all you can expect from Guadagnino. "In my opinion, Call Me can be the first chapter of the chronicles of the life of these people that we met in this movie, and if the first one is a story of coming of age and becoming a young man, maybe the next chapter will be, what is the position of the young man in the world, what does he want-and what is left a few years later of such an emotional punch that made him who he is," the director shared with THR. Guadagnino hopes Call Me by Your Name is just the first installment in a decades-long series.

For anyone who fell in love with watching Elio and Oliver fall for one another in the romantic Italian countryside, this may be the most exciting news to come out of Hollywood. While there are no details about when a sequel may be released or if Chalamet and Hammer have signed on to the project, you can be sure that there is more to see learn about life and love from Elio and Oliver.
